Caleb Mitchum was born and raised in rural Oklahoma, and he now lives in Oklahoma City, performing, teaching, and facilitating the arts. He holds degrees from the Wanda L. Bass School of Music at Oklahoma City University, where he performed and collaborated with scores of great artists. He has taken part in numerous world premieres (Edward Knights Windows to the West for orchestra), recorded film scores (David Yeagley's soundtrack for Daughter of Dawn), has been featured in multimedia performances (Zelda: Symphony of the Goddesses, Harry Potter Live, and Red, White, and Boom! with the OKC Philharmonic) and performed as a soloist in recitals and various concerts. Caleb has been invited to participate in masterclasses with Jeanne Baxtresser, Marina Piccinini, Jim Walker, Jonathan Keeble, Alberto Almarza, Angeleita Floyd, Jill Felber, Claudia Anderson, Nicole Esposito, and others. 

Caleb has succeeded competitively as well, placing first in many competitions including the International Crescendo Music Awards (2013), the Oklahoma Community Orchestra Young Artist Competition (2016), the Oklahoma Flute Society Collegiate Competition (2012 & 2013), and the Oklahoma City University Concerto Competition (2013). He has a particular penchant for new music, and has worked with many composers on newly commissioned works, including chamber works such as Joseph Craven's Three Movements for Wood and Wind and Jamie Whitmarsh's Vela X-1. Caleb has been an adjudicator for the Flute New Music Consortium Composition Competition, collaborated with the the Oklahoma Virtuosi, and also worked with the Oklahoma New Music Consortium, a group that meets to perform new music submitted by composers from around the world. He is also involved in the commission of new works as an arts administrator. 

Caleb particularly enjoys performing in operas and musicals. He has been in the orchestra for over 40 productions, including Kurt Weill's Street Scene, Mozart's The Magic Flute, Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor, and is currently the principal flute with the Painted Sky Opera Company.

Caleb currently works in development with the Oklahoma Arts Institute where he raises funds to provide free and low-cost arts education opportunities to high school students and educators throughout the state.
